The Actions Logistic Representative will also play a key role in facilitating volunteers in the warehouse space, and in supporting trainings provided to staff and activists for the purposes of establishing the skills necessary to fulfill the goals of the Actions Team.
In short, the two Actions Logistic Representatives will work together to bottom line keeping the San Francisco Warehouse and East Coast Warehouse functioning in tandem as an interchangeable hub for action training, prep, and deployment as well as continual activist growth and development.
Operating these multifunctional spaces requires in-house support of all sorts, from general cleaning, trash, and recycling to maintenance of expensive and complex equipment, to general office support with general office equipment, as well as constant work with volunteers, vendors, and contractors to ensure that all of the above happens.
There are slow times and very busy times. During very busy times there can be a constant running to shops for widgets, long hours (and weekends) of building and shipping to various teams in the field or other offices. Everything that's built, bought, shipped, and/or loaned must also be recovered, inventoried, tested, repaired, sold or stored. During slow times there is the constant effort to keep the space usable, organized, and clean.
The Actions Logistics Representative will help with all of these functions, spending most days in the equipment center and occasional days in the main office. Further, they may also be called on to assist with general Actions needs, from research and planning to on-site logistics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge and experience using/applying action-related equipment.
• Understanding insurance related to equipment
• Cost consciousness/experience in creating and managing budgets.
• Demonstrated abilities in the skills required for non-violent direct actions, and the ability to teach these skills to others in beginning to advanced trainings.
• Ability to ensure that the standards for use of action resources are set and met.
• Ability to ensure the standardization and consistency in classification and reporting of resources and their availability.
EXPERIENCE/ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
• Experience in creating and adapting warehouse systems
• Knowledge of safety and health practices and requirements
• Technical understanding and experience (through courses and jobs)
• Affinity with boats, vehicles, tools, industrial climbing practices, etc.
• Experience in performing and coordinating non-violent direct actions.

POSITION TITLE: Field Organizer
DEPARTMENT: Grassroots
LOCATION: OH, NY, GA, FL, TX
SUPERVISOR: Field Organizing Manager
DEADLINE TO APPLY: Preferred deadline March 5, 2010, final deadline April 9, 2010
You: A passionate grassroots organizer who is ready to do what it takes to solve some of the world's worst environmental problems and to hold corporations and the government accountable. You want to make elected officials pay attention to the people they represent instead of powerful corporate interests and hold corporations accountable to their environmental crimes.
Us: Greenpeace was founded in 1971 by a small group of activists standing up to nuclear testing off the Alaskan Coast. These daring few effectively won a total ban on nuclear testing and launched Greenpeace's legacy of “bearing witness†to environmental abuse. We continue to use non-violent direct action, creative confrontation, and grassroots organizing to build solutions to global warming, toxic pollution, the threat of nuclear energy expansion, and destruction of our ancient forests and oceans. Today, Greenpeace has 2.5 million members in 40 countries, and continues to lead the way to a clean and peaceful planet. And we're hiring field organizers to join the good fight.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Greenpeace Field Organizer is passionate, driven, strategic, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You can quickly and effectively inspire communities to demand change from grocery chains selling threatened fish species or from shoes companies sourcing their leather from cattle ranchers clearing away tropical forests. You empower people to challenge their elected officials to make local chemical plants safer and to expose the polluter lobbyists who are undermining science-based climate legislation. You are happy wearing a suit to a morning lobby meeting with key allies and a local member of Congress, only to get paint on an old pair of jeans that evening while painting a banner with local volunteers.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteers into strong grassroots activists
- Build lasting relationships with a variety of strategic allies
- Plan and execute education and outreach events
- Generate media coverage on Greenpeace issues
- Build relationships with elected officials to ensure long-term action
- Implement campaign tactics pressuring decision makers to become champions on key issues
- Quickly develop knowledge of Greenpeace issues
- Other responsibilities as required by the Field Organizing Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of grassroots organizing experience
- Able to inspire a diverse group of people
- Strong communication skills - written and oral
- Critical thinking and time-management skills
- Able to keep a level head in a fast-paced campaign environment
- Commitment to grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action as a means of effecting change
